Model, vision, compass
GoPlAnAfricaA model, a vision and a compass for African family businesses that want to prepare continuity before succession becomes an emergency.
What is GoPlAn?
GoPlAn is a model for analyzing and supporting the transmission of African family businesses, developed through doctoral research on family-business transmission in Cameroon.
Organize roles, responsibilities and rules between the family, shareholders and leaders.
Prepare early the next generation, skills, responsibilities and the handover.
Anticipate cultural, family, legal and patrimonial constraints that can weaken transmission.
How it is used
Model evolution
The model was later enriched by digitalization and formalization, strengthening the ability of African family businesses to secure continuity and long-term sustainability.
Central idea
Transmission should not be prepared only when the founder leaves the company. It must be prepared, governed and anticipated early enough to preserve the business, patrimony, family relationships and entrepreneurial project.
